Scott, a teacher, learns that due to financial issues, the school management wants to discontinue extra-curricular activities. So he decides to become a mixed martial arts fighter to raise money. This movie is just a fun little confection that’s got some Octagon action, high school laughs, and odd-couple appeal. Kevin James gets pounded in this MMA-inspired comedy. But underneath all the flying feet and fists we see something else: a really strong, good heart. It may be formulaic fodder but Here Comes The Booms delivers enough pratfalls and sweet sentiment to make this Kevin James’ most likable star vehicle yet.
