Detective Jarrell is assigned to find and safeguard a kidnapped Buddhist mystic child. Though Jarrell doesn’t believe in mysticism, his investigation leads him to some flabbergasting evidences. This is classic 1980s Eddie Murphy. He sails through a pretty weak plot with his trademark humor, almost lending some validity to the nonsense going on around him. Toying with themes too serious for it and stars too big for it, this fantasy is incalculably less than the sum of it’s parts.
